Pinto Beans

2 pounds dried pinto beans
3 tablespoons, bacon drippings
4 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1/4 teaspoon red pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 teaspoons salt
7 cups water

Sort and wash beans; place in a large Dutch oven. Cover with water 2 inches above beans; let soak 8 hours. Drain.
Combine beans and remaining ingredients in a large Dutch oven. Bring to a boil; cover, reduced heat, and simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until tender, stirring occasionally. Yield: 12 cups.
