Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Cream butter; gradually add sugars, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine flour, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with peanut butter, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in vanilla. Cover and chill 1 to 2 hours. Shape dough into 1-inch balls, and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Press with a fork to flatten cookies. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes.
