Marble Squares

1 cup plus 2 tbsp sifted flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
6 tbsp sugar
6 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp water
1 egg
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Grease an 8"x8" or 9"x9" cake pan.
Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Blend together butter, sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and water.
Beat egg and add to sugar/butter mixture and mix well.
Spoon in flour mixture to the sugar/butter mixture and stir well.
Stir in chopped nuts.
Spread batter in the pan.
Sprinkle chocolate chips over mixture.
Place in oven for 2 minutes. Then take out the pan from the oven and run knife through dough to marbleize.
Return the pan to the oven and bake 12-14 minutes.
Cool and cut into squares.
