Marble Cake

1 cup shortening
3 cups of sugar
6 eggs
3 cups sifted cake flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon soda
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 can (5.5-ounces) chocolate syrup

Cream shortening and sugar. Add one egg at a time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour, salt,and soda together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with butter, beginning and ending with buttermilk. Add vanilla and blend well. Pour half the batter into well-greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Add chocolate syrup to remaining batter. Pour chocolate mixture over top of other batter and fold gently with a spatula for marble effect. 350 for one hour and 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
