Grandma's Soft Sugar Cookies

1 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
4 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1 1/2 tsps. vanilla

Mix dry ingredients and set aside. Mix soft butter with sugar, then add beaten eggs, vanilla and sour cream. Add dry ingredients a little at a time. Mixture will be sticky. Let set overnight in refrigerator before baking. Roll about 1/4-inch thick and cut with cookie cutter. Bake at 350 10-12 minutes on ungreased cookie sheet until bottoms are light brown.

NOTE: You can add 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg. Or, leave out the nutmeg and vanilla and add lemon or orange flavoring. You can also roll the dough out 1/2-inch thick and bake it at 375 for 12 minutes instead.
