Congo Squares

3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 (16-ounce) package brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup (6 ounces) semisweet chocolate morsels
1 cup pecan pieces

Beat butter and sugar at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt, gradually add to butter mixture, beating well. Stir in chocolate morsels and pecans; spoon into a greased 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking pan.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Cool in pan on a wire rack (center will fall as it cools). Cut into squares.
