Caramel Pecan Brownies

2/3 cup vanilla caramels (12 caramels)
1/3 cup margarine or butter
2 tablespoons milk
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans

In a 2-quart saucepan combine the caramels, margarine or butter, and milk. Heat and stir over low heat just till caramels are melted. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the sugar. Add the eggs and vanilla; stir till well blended.
In a mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to saucepan mixture, stirring till blended. Stir in pecans. Turn into a greased 9x9x2-inch baking pan.
Bake in a 350 oven for 20 to 25 minutes or till a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool; cut into bars.
