Blackberry Cordial

4 cups fresh blackberries or frozen loose-pack unsweetened blackberries, thawed (about 20 ounces)
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups quality vodka
1 teaspoon whole cloves
1 teaspoon whole allspice
In large bowl, crush berries.
Stir in sugar, vodka, an spices. Stir to dissolve sugar as much as possible.
Pour mixture into 1 1/2- to 2-quart jar. Cover and age at room temperature for 2 to 4 weeks, shaking jar gently every few days.
After the aging time, strain the cordial through cheesecloth twice, discarding pulp and spices.
Pour cordial into small decorative bottles. Seal and label.
Depending on the season, serve at room temperature, heated gently, or icy cold form the refrigerator.
